A 20 year old man fell off his motorcycle and suffered a compund fracture of the femur. The fracture ws surgically reduced and the wound debrided. Forty eight hours later, he spiked a fever (temperature, 40*C) and the wound area became necrotic. Crepitus was felt, and a foul smelling odor was percieved originating from the wound. Marked anemia and a white blood cell count of 22, 800 were found. Gram stain of the exudtae showed large gram positive rods. Colonies grew on blood agar incubated anaerobically but not aerobically. Identify the etiologic agent and the mode of transmission.
