An electronics company makes communications devices for military contracts. The company just completed two contracts. The navy contract was for 2,275 devices and took 25 workers four weeks (40 hours per week) to complete. The army contract was for 5,405 devices that were produced by 27 workers in six weeks. a. Calculate the productivity for navy and army contracts in units produced per labor hour. b. On which contract were the workers more productive? Army contract Navy contractExplanation / Answer
a. Calculation of Productivity of Navy:
Number of Units Manufactured = 2275
Number of Workers = 25, Number of Weeks = 4 and Number of Hours per week = 40
Therefore, Total Number of Hours = 25 * 4 * 40 = 4000
Productivity = 2,275 / 4000 = 0.56875
Calculation of Productivity of Army:
Number of Units Manufactured = 5,405
Number of Workers = 27, Number of Weeks = 6 and Number of Hours per week = 40
Therefore, Total Number of Hours = 27 * 6 * 40 = 6,480
Productivity = 5,405 / 6,480 = 0.8341
b. Based on the above, Army Contract workers more productive.
