How do Muslim women's internalized views of religion, science, modesty, and reproductive healthcare inform the access of their American born female children to mammograms for breast cancer.
Hypothesis:
Muslim born women who moved to the United states strongly hold on to their values of their religion, their views on science and modesty, and their apprehension to reproductive healthcare which impacts their female american born children's access to quality mammogram screenings.
Explanation / Answer
A. Breast Cancer is the leading cause of death in women in the United States irrespective of race and ethnicity. Early detection of breast cancer results in the reduction of mortality rates. Despite these, disparities in the screening program for breast cancer may occur in certain groups. The factors include home medicine, religion, beliefs, immigrant, and lack of awareness of breast cancer. Immigrant Muslim women whose cultural and religious beliefs limit the utilization of breast cancer screening program.
B. Muslims are less likely willing to undergo the mammogram. The lack of knowledge includes that the cancer screening is not beneficial. They feel discomfort of male practitioners during the examination. They faith in God who cures and control the diseases.
