Total wages (Click to select)risefall by $.

Explanation / Answer

a. New union wage = $ 50 + 20% of $ 50 = $ 50 + $ 10 = $ 60

Initially there are 1,200 workers after agreement 25% people lose their job i.e. 1200 - 25% of 1200

= 1200 - 300 = 900 workers

b. Total wage received by workers before agreement

= 1200 workers X $ 50 per hour X 40 hours per week = $ 2,400,000

Total wage received by the remaining workers after agreement

= 900 workers X $ 60 per hour X 40 hours per week = $ 2,160,000

c. Total wage fall by $ 240,000 i.e. ( $ 21,60,000 - $ 24,00,000)

d. Total wages before agreement = 1200 workers X $ 50 per hour X 40 hours per week = $ 24,00,000

Total wages after agreement = 900 X $ 60 X 40 hours per week + 300 X $ 15 X 40 hours per week

= 21,60,000 + 1,80,000 = $ 23,40,000

Therefore, Total wages fall by $ 60,000 i.e. ($ 23,40,000 - $ 24,00,000)
