Question
This is all one question.. I really need help. Im sorry. I think they all go together so I don't know how to post them separately .. You are tossing a 3 kg ball up in the air. When the ball leaves your hand it is moving at 4 m/s/ Use the height that the ball leaves your hand as 0m. What is the kinetic energy of the ball when it leaves your hand. How about the potential energy. Also what is the total energy. What is the kinetic energy of the ball at the top of its path. What about the potential energy. Also what is the height of the ball at the top of its path. Thank you!
Explanation / Answer
a) KE of the ball when it moves your hand = 0.5 mv^2 = 0.5( 3)(4)^2 = 24 J
b) PE of the ball when it leaves your hnad= mgh = (3)(9.8)(0) = 0 J
c) Total Energy = KE + PE = 24 + 0 = 24 J
d) Height gained at the top of path = u^2/2g = 4^2/ ( 2x 9.8) = 0.816 m apprx
g) kE at top of path = 0 J ( as there is no velocity associated at the top of path)
h) PE at top of path = mgh = 3(9.8)(0.816) = 24 J
