Question

One bender (a unit of length) is equivalent to 655 hermes (another unit of length). What is the distance to planet Terrill, in bender units, if it is 15,720 hermes away?

If we use a scale where 10,000 km will be equal to 5 cm, what is the diameter of planet Fry in scaled cm, if its real diameter is 25,000 km?

You have a globe of planet Dewey, which is 15 cm in diameter. If 1 cm represents 600 km, what is the real diameter of planet Dewey?

If planet Terrill's diameter is larger than planet Dewey's diameter, which planet has a larger diameter in scaled cm, using the scale where 1,000 km will be equal to 5 cm?

Explanation / Answer

(1)    1 bender = 655 hermes

So, distance to planet Terrill = 15720/655

                                              = 24 bender

(2)    10000 km = 5 cm

So, diameter of planet Fry in scaled cm = 25000 * 5/10000

                                                                 =12.5 cm

(3)   1 cm = 600 km

So, real diameter of planet Dewey = 15 * 600

                                                         = 9000 km

(4)   1000 km = 5 cm

So, Dewey's diameter in scaled cm = 9000 * 5/1000

                                                          = 45 cm

Therefore, if planet Terrill's diameter is larger than planet Dewey's diameter than Terill diameter will be larger in scaled cm or more than 45 cm .
