Question
1. Imagine that changes in the environment made it so that only worms remained. Predict how this might change the percentages of bird beak phenotypes seen in the population after five generations. Would these results differ from the result we got in this demostration? why or why not?2. What other factors, beyond genetics, could possibly explain the type of variation in a population?
3. Some people have lasix surgery to improve their vision. Is there an advantage to the individual, the population, or the species if an individual modifies its phenotype? 1. Explanation / Answer
Ans-1 it will change the total population as there will be only those birds which will be dependent on the worms for the food. It will lead to natural selection in the birds. The birds will be having only one choice to feed on worms and the beak will have changes like other worm feeder birds.
Ans-2 factors other than genetic which can explain the type of variance are physical characters, behavioral characters ,aadaptability, and social approach.
Ans-3 it will only benefit the individual as this will not produce inheritable change in the people who have lasix surgery.
