Question
I definitely see a seasonal and time trend for sale of iPhones from the year 2012. Check this link if you want to. http://www.statista.com/statistics/263401/global-apple-iphone-sales-since-3rd- quarter-2007/ 3. For your benefit, here is the actual data Time period 2012 Q1 2012 Q2 2012 Q3 2012 Q4 2013 Q1 2013 Q2 2013 Q3 2013 Q4 2014 Q1 2014 Q2 2014 Q3 2014 Q4 2015 Q1 2015 Q2 2015 Q3 2015 Q4 Sales (in millions 37.044 35.06 26.03 26.91 47.79 37.43 31.24 33.8 51.03 43.72 35.2 39.27 74.47 61.17 47.53 48.05 2016 Q1 2016 Q2 2016 Q3 2016 Q4 74.78 51.19 40.4 45.51 Use the data from 2012 to 2016 and try to predict the sales for 2017 (first two quarters) using trend and seasonality index. Compare your prediction with the actual values and writea summary statement. Also, can you create a bar chart for the quarterly sales? (Something we did long long before at the beginning of this course)Explanation / Answer
In Year 2016 Q4 the sales have increased to 122.854% which shows a 22.85 % rise since 2012 Q1 .
Well I would be needing the projected Sales for 2017 Without that this Question cannot be solved
Divide the yearly predicted sales demand by 4 in order to get the Quartery Sales and than Multiply it by -Year 2012 Q1 Actual Demand / Average of Q1 demand . This will give you predicted sales of 2017 Q1.( i.e 37.044/57.0228)
Similarly Multiply the Quarter sales to - Year 2012 Q2 Actual Demand / Average of Q2 Demand (i.e 35.06/45.714)
