Yes, resistance to Teixobactin could eventually develop when this antibiotic is used for a prolonged period of time due to horizontal transmission of a resistance mechanism from a microbe which is resistant to this antibiotic. However, based on its structure and mechanism it is expected that it will take even much longer duration for resistance to appear against this antibiotic as compared to vancomycin antibiotic which has similar mechanism of action (it took more than 30 years for resistance against vancomycin after its introduction into the clinic).
