Question
In an assay for the hormone T4, a patient’s serum is added to a reaction well along with magnetic beads that have been coated with anti-T4. Following incubation, a magnet is used to remove the beads. A solution containing a second anti-T4 antibody that has been compounded with 125 I is added to the beads and allowed to incubate. The beads are removed from the solution by using another magnet. The amount of gamma radiation being emitted from the beads is measured and compared to a graph that was previously prepared by testing 6 specimens of known T4 concentrations. The concentration of T4 in the patient sample is determined from the graph.
