Question
For certain viruses, an infection with strain 1 of the virus results in mild illness and triggers a normal immune response with production of antibodies and memory B cells that provide full protection against a repeat infection of strain 1. When the same person is exposed one year later to a slightly different strain (strain 2) of the virus, the resulting illness is much more severe, even fatal. Explain how memory to one viral strain can later enhance the ability of the second viral strain to infect host cells such as macrophages.
Explanation / Answer
There is no relation between the first memory to one viral strain and second viral strain because there is specific memory cell of antibodies production occurred in human body related to only one type strain if it infects the host second time but after the modification in that strain it behave as a new infector and there is no memory cell present for that so it causes a severe infection.
