Explanation / Answer

In vitro (IVF) fertilization is a method where eggs and sperm are removed from female and male respectively. Then fertilized outside the body, allowed to reach a blastocyst stage (8 cell stage). Once it reaches blastocyst stage, the embryo is transferred to the uterus of the same or other woman. Eventually, it gives rise to the fetus.

If a woman is suffering from blockage in fallopian tube or absent of fallopian tube can avail this technology to overcome infertility.

Ethical issues:

IVF has been under constant controversy since its introduction in medical field. In the year 1987, Roman Catholic church has raised ethical issue against IVF on three grounds:

1. Human embryos which are failed to implantation successfully are eventually destructed.

2. If sperm donar is other than husband violating marital context of reproduction.

3. IVF is in opposition to conjugal act.

Apart from this, there are several ethical issues are raised such as,

Surrogacy:

There are two types of surrogacy. Gestational and traditional.

In gestational surrogacy, eggs are not from surrogate and hence there is no genetic connection. But in case of traditional surrogacy, surrogate mother's egg are used for surrogacy.

Different countries have different rules over rights in surrogacy.

In UK, surrogate mother is a legal mother to any child they carry even if not related genetically. And if surrogate has husband or partner, he becomes second parent or legal father.

Its illegal to pay surrogate in UK. Hence it is not considered as buying and selling human life.
