b. Gregor Mendel is known as the father of genetics. He worked on pea plants and discovered the fundamental laws of inheritance.
c. Genes are the units of heredity. They are passed on from generation to generation via parents to offspring. As generations passes by, molecular mechanisms alter in a way so as to bring a change in the genes which is known as genetic variation. Now, genetic variation serves as the baseline for evolution. Over the years, random mutations takes place gradually in the genes and hence evolutionary change is based on the accumulation of the mutations. This becomes the key to evolution is selction of improved traits which are key for sustainance.
