Hello! Could someone please help me answer these discussion questions? I have a general idea about the answers but I'm still not confident enough to say it's correct.
Thank you,
I really appreciate your help.

Explanation / Answer

1.The plasma membrane structure belong to fluid mosaic model. This model was proposed in 1972. According, to this model membrane consist of three parts. First is phospholipids , second is protein and third is carbohydrate . Phospholipid is in bilayer form whereas proteins are distributed both outside and inside of the the phospholipid layer. This lipid have two parts one is head that is hydrophilic and tails which are hydrophobic. Carbohydrate are found sometimes attach with lipid, sometimes attach with proteins. This structure make the plasma membrane a semi permeable membrane .

Function of lipid is to provide the fluidity of the membrane where proteins have multiple function like act as receptors, helps in the transport of molecules inside and outside of the cell.

2. When a plant cell is placed in hypotonic solution, then water will enter in the cell due to osmosis. The cell will take water but not get burst due to presence of cell wall. The plant cell when placed in hypertonic solution, water will flow from the cell and it become flaccid. When plant cell placed in isotonic solution, no water movement occur due to presence of same amount of solute both in cell and solution.

When an animal cell placed in hypotonuc solution, the animal cell take water and get swell and burst after some time due to non presence of cell wall. When animal cell placed in hypetonic solution, the water will go to outside of the cell due to exosmosis. In isotonic solution, no water movement takes place.
