Explanation / Answer

Does the rise of outsiders Trump and Sanders foretell a crumbling of the two political parties in America—and why? For instance, will this give rise to the splitting of the parties into third parties that more effectively represent different groups:

The two main political parties in America are the Republican and Democratic parties. The current presidential election has seen rise of party outsiders like Trump and Sanders. In the wake of developments of the current presidential campaign, the Democrats are uniting so as to present a strong and unified force. The Republicans, on the other hand, are falling apart. Not many Republicans are rallying behind Trump and this is causing and widening schisms within the Republican Party.

Both the parties are facing a "crisis of identity" situation. The Republican party is in a worst situation as cultural and ideological fissures are opening in the party. Such fissures takes a long time to patch, by the time the party can potentially crumble.

Now, the Democratic party is plagued with a situation in which members are taking disparate stands. This is making the liberal supporters feeling alienated.

The level of mistrust is growing inside both the parties. This, along with, the rise of outsiders like  Trump and Sanders, can potentially crumble both the political parties. Differences in ideologies can see members leaving a particular party and forming a third party.

The emotion can clearly be gauged by Senator Ben Sasse's open letter to Trump. Ben Sasse is a  a Republican from Nebraska and in his open letter he wrote that if Donald Trump becomes the party nominee, the conservatives will have to find a third option. This open letter strongly shows the underlying current that is flowing through the American political system at present.

In the NH primary, the outsiders won and the insiders just crumbled. This is just a harbinger of the changing political structure in the USA and how it will impact the two political parties.
