Question

33 Three batches of radish seeds, each with a starting dry weight of 1.50g were placed in the conditions noted in the photo below. After 1 week the material in the dishes was dried and reweighed as indicated. Which of the following processes contributed the most to the increased biomass of the light, water treatment? a Absorption of mineral nutrients from the soil by the roots. b. Absorption of organic substances from the soil by the roots c. Absorption of CO2 gas from the air by the leaves. d. Absorption of H20 from the soil by the roots. e. Absorption of solar radiation by the leaves LIGHT, WATER329NO LIGHT, WATER, 1 17g LIGHT, NOWATER, 1 489

Explanation / Answer

Answer 33. Option e

As seeds germinated in presence of water, embryo became metabolically active and its radical formed root and plumule formed shoot. Cotyledons after providing enough nutrient to the embryo came out as the primordial leaves. Presence of light activates photosynthesis in them, as a result starch is synthesised and that leads to the increased biomass of the seeds.

Answer 37. Amino acids

Because the molecule shows the presence of N terminal on the left and C terminal on the right. N terminal is because of amino(NH2) group and C terminal is because of the carboxylic group(COOH).

Answer 38. Option d

In dehydration or condensation reaction, water comes out. It takes place between the carboxylic and the amino group of the amino acids. Carboxylic group donates its Oh and amino group donated its H group, as a result water formed is excluded and 2 amino acids are joined to form a dipeptide with peptide bond in between as a result of the condensation reaction. Here, the right representation would have been - OH and - H.
