33 Question (5 points) a See page 492 A solution contains 4.70 moles of water, 1.00 moles of sucrose (C12H22011), and 1.10 moles of glucose.Sucrose and glucose are nonvolatile 2nd attempt Part 1 (2.5 points) use Periodic Table See Hint What is the mole fraction of water in this solution? Part 2 (2.5 points) Assuming an ideal mixture, what is the vapor pressure of this solution at 35 C, given that the vapor pressure of pure water at 35 C is 42.2 torr? torr 1st attempt 33,47> VIEW SOLUTION 40 OF 47 QUESTIONS COMPLETEDExplanation / Answer
You have
4.7 moles of water
1 mole of sucrose
1.1 moles of glucose
add all this quantities
4.7 +1.1 + 1 = 6.8 total moles
mole fraction of water = 4.7 / 6.8 = 0.691
since glucose and sucrose are nonvolatile these will not appear on the vapor phase so apply raoult's law
Vapor pressure solution = Vapor pressure pure water * mole fraction water
Vapor pressure = 0.691 * 42.2 = 29.167 torrs
