Explanation / Answer

the protein i like the most is KERATIN

keratin is a structural protein. it is fibrous in nature. it is found in abundance in hair, horn and hooves. i like keratin because it makes the hair smooth and curly. More amount of keratin in hair, more will be the curliness of hair.

keratin is found in vertebrates. it is found in outer covering of animals. it is a biopolymer whose properties depend on the structure in which it is present. for instance when keratin is present in horn, it provides pressure resistance whereas when it is present in turtle shell it shows the waterproof property.

structure:

the keratin is made up of a polypeptide chain. the chains are arranged in alpha helics which mean in spiral form and beta pleated which means sheet. it has large number of disulphide bridges. this makes the keratin mechanically and chemically resistant. there different type of keratin available in the different part of human body.

characteristic:

it is a three dimensional protein. it is made up of small amino acid. it consist of alpha helic and beta pleated structure. alpha helic has intramolecular bond between hydrogen and carbonyl group. on the other hand, beta pleated has intermolecular bond between hydrogen and carbonyl group. keratin shows high stability due to interaction between polar and non-polar bond.

properties:

keratin consists of amino acid such as glycine, alanine, cysteine and valine. it consists of polar, non-polar and ionic polar amino acids. the reactivity of the proteins largely depend upon intermolecular bond, and other factors such as adhesion and suscptibility.

functions:

they act as a protection when they are present on the skin. keratin when present in wool and hair provide strength. they make the wool and hair tensile. in fur, they act as insulator. they are present in quill and spines of animals. this helps them to protect them from predator.
