Can I get a response to this: Social responsibility is a situation that our society iscurrently dealing with and trying to find solutions and it's not acut and dry solution or answer. Companies need to do the rightthing. Ford and Firestone tried to slide by using cheaper controlswith the Explorer and as a result many people died and theshareholders ultimately lost. The same will happen if a Powercompany didn't use filters which would reduce pollution - It wouldharm people then it would ultimately bring the company to its kneesvia lawsuits and negative media.

Obviously the costs involved need to be weighed, but doing theright socially responsible things will enable a company to grow anddo well over time. Investors need to be more socially responsibleas well and realize that if a company is just out to line theshareholder's pockets - it will die.

This whole articles is kind of misguided. Saying that doingsomething for something other than money, is ridiculous. Acompany's main goal is to make money, but it isn't just througheveryday operations. Sure, going green sounds good, but like thearticle pointed out, it's just for positive media. It does notmatter whether going green is healthy for us or not, it matter thatif we go green, the media will shine a positive light on it, andthus you will get more business. The decision to not go green ismisguided if one thinks of only the company itself, and not theleft-winged media. A company does absolutely nothing if it is notprofitable in the long run. Any company that does somethingsupposedly philanthropic will make sure the public knows aboutit.
