Question

f lioids (choose from triacylglycerols, glycerophospholipids, steroid hormones, bile acids or gangliosides) give the function weakly or strongly amphiphilic and exp of lipids. Answer within the table shown below. These need to be full (extensive n of that class of lipid, identify whether the class of lipids is considered lain how that degree of amphiphilicity is important to the function of that class ) explanations. Explanation / Answer

1. Tryacylglycerol.

Tryacylglycerol are formed from glycerol and fatty acids. It is hydrophobic and not amphipathic and is storable form of lipid. TAG are stored in adipose.

2. Glycerolipids. It has polar groups e.g. Phosphate and are amphipathic in nature. Due to its amphipathic nature it is structural component in lipid bilayer.

3. Steroid hormones - these are hydrophobic in nature and can pass easily through membrane hydrophobic parts. Like testosterone and estrogen. These are hormones responsible and involved in many components for sexual development.
