Explanation / Answer

The most important was the evolution for exchange of gases between surroundings and organism’s body. In case of aquatic animals gasses are diffused between capillaries in gills and surrounding water. Whereas, in terrestrial organisms gases are diffused between capillaries present within the lungs and inhaled air entering the lungs. The oxygen content in air is much higher than the dissolved oxygen in water therefor the terrestrial animals breath slower than aquatic animals and unlike aquatic animals, they do not have various adaptations for better gaseous exchange.
