Your charge is to provide a report card for your assigned country on environmental issues and to provide me with an overall environmental grade for your country. You are to provide a grade (from A to F) for each of the following items AND then justify each grade with no more than 100 words per issue. When you assign the final grade you can justify this grade with no more than 300 words. Furnish grades for the following environmental issues:-

Population

India is a second highest populated country in the World. Present population of India is 1.25 billion. It is growing rapidly and exerting pressure on all environmental issues. To minimise the environmental pollution control of population is one of the main task in India. Though Government is putting all the efforts to control the population growth but the achievement is negligible. Now the economic situation forcing people to go for one child may show some effect in future. To feed growing population India has to bring more land into agriculture and to increase agricultural land area, deforestation is the only way. Deforestation causes heating environment and less rains means less crop yield from the agriculture. Increasing agriculture also showing its effect on groundwater as pumping of groundwater lowering groundwater levels.

Biodiversity

Biodiversity is the existence of plants, animals, fish and other organisms on Earth. Healthy existence of biodiversity is very important because human life depends on that. Present developments adversely effecting ecosystems and biodiversity on land and in water. Because using of pesticides in agriculture killing birds and other organisms. Some of the population of birds species drastically reducing because of using of pesticides. Industrial pollution degrading ecosystem of land and groundwater there by effecting the survival of trees, plants, crops and water quality. Various pollutions effecting the environment and causing global warming which is rising sea level and effecting marine organisms. Pollution of marine environment with chemicals, global warming etc. Killing fish growth and effecting their ecosystem.

Water Resources

Fresh Water is an important is an important component for survival of biodiversity. Only 3% of fresh water is available on land and less than 1% we are utilising for human purposes. So protection of water resources is a very important thing in present day life. Industrial pollution effecting quality of groundwater and making not usable for drinking or agricultural purposes. The borehole pumping of groundwater lowering groundwater levels in subsurface. In some areas the roots of trees not reaching lowered groundwater levels and dying. So we can imagine how important is the water for survival of biodiversity as well as human beings. Deforestation increasing the temperature on land surface and causing less rains there by we are getting less fresh water. If this trend continuous then in near future it is going to affect human life and other life on earth.

Energy

Electricity is the main energy we are using for all developmental activities in modern life. Without electric energy there will be no development and modern life. Electric energy is being produced based on coal, gas, solar, water, wind and nuclear resources. Thermal power plants producing electric energy based on coal fuel. Coal mining and coal based power plants are main producers of CO2 causing global warming and greenhouse effect. Gas based energy is more safer than coal but gas production effecting groundwater and soil in that area. Water based hydropower is safer but its production depends upon rainfall which is not consistent. Nuclear based power is cheap but the use of nuclear fuel and its plants possess hidden dangers. More safe and cheapest energy is based on wind and solar power. They are renewable and no shortage of them. So in India and all over World energy production based on solar and wind energy increasing.

Air Pollution               

Modern industrialisation and transport producing air pollution. Air pollution in some of the cities increase so much and its effecting human survival there. In India the most air polluted city is Delhi. Government has declared holidays to schools in Delhi to protect children from smog in winter season. Air pollution causing cough, throat pains and effecting lungs and leading to asthma. Particularly the vehicular traffic in cities and their generated gases and dust producing air pollution. Because of this the people wearing masks and even then air pollution effect showing its power on human life and biodiversity. To reduce air pollution we should follow strict norms in industries and vehicles pollution.

Waste Management

Industrial waste, domestic waste etc. ever increasing ant their proper management is very important task now. Now day waste produced from big cities has became a menace. Transport of waste and management of it has become big headache. Managing collected domestic waste also creating in safe disposal of it. In some cities the waste materials flowing through drainage and streams and choking their flow and causing overflow of drainage. Industrial waste mixing with streams and lakes causing major health effect people and crops. Waste management has become big problem for cities and industries and with proper management of them only make to lead us healthy life. People’s co-operation is very important in it, so every body should put their efforts in reducing waste management problems.
