Can someone help me answer these questions for my natural hazards course?
Hazard mitigation - Natural Hazards
If there was an eruption at Colima volcano, it would be important to know how thick the deposit would be at the population centers in the region.
(1) Why might it be important to know this information?
(2) What three crucial pieces of information would we need in order to make an accurate prediction of the thickness of tephra fallout at Colima City for a particular eruption?
(3) Based on the worst case scenario for a subplinian eruption at Colima volcano, do you think that the city of Colima needs to worry about ash fallout as a potential hazard? Explain.
(4) Include any other information/observations you have made that you consider relevant to ash dispersal hazards in the region.
Explanation / Answer
answer
a.it is important to know the this information because, this are the natural hazard. It may damaged the place or area when it will a volcano eruption. so that we can take safety measure if any natural hazard .
b. Inthe case of larger eruptions or those which occur in highly variable wind conditions , this atmospheric model is likely a representation of reality and in these cases the tephra 2 model would not br expected to provide an accurate prediction of the mass loading of tephra on the ground .someone unfamiliar with the simplifying assumption might organize the construction of buildings or other public spaces in dangerous locations based on the underprediction of the hazard in these areas.
c.Ash fallout to the ground may pose significant disruption and damage to buildings , transportation, water and wastewater, power supply, communications equipment, agriculture and primary productions leads to potentially substantial societal impacts and costs even thickness of only a few millimeters or inches.it can cause health impacts to humans and animals.
d.the ash clouds impacting aviation and ashfall reaching areas downwind ,owing to widespread dispersal by winds . the ability of affected community to adapt to ashfall.
