i. Draw B.
ii. Find the centroid of B.
iii. Use Pappus’ Theorem to calculate the volume of the solid generated by rotating
B around the x-axis.

A Theorem of Pappus1
states that when a region of the plane A (not touching the x-axis) is rotated around the
x-axis, the volume of the solid created is the area of A times the distance travelled by the
centroid of A (ie, the perimeter of a circle with radius ¯y)
