(see the scale at the bottom of the map) Use this distance and the ages given on the map to calculate the rate of movement between each pair and the average movement of the plate they are sitting on in cm/year. (be careful of units!)

Age difference= 3Ma

Rate of movement= 175 km/ 3Ma = 5.83 cm/ year

B) Giancomini- Denison

Distance=575 kms

Age difference= 3 Ma

Rate= 575 kms/ 3 Ma= 19.167 cm/ year

C) Welker- Denson

Distance= 200 kms

Age difference= 3Ma

Rate= 200 kms/ 3Ma= 6.33 cm/year

D) Welker-Dickens

Distance= 225 kms

Age difference= 11 Ma

Rate= 225 kms/ 11 Ma = 2.45 cm/ year.
