Question
The graph shown below is the velocity, in cm/sec, of an object moving along the x-axis between times t = 0 and t = 5 seconds. Positive velocity indicates motion to the right. At time t = 5, where is the object in relation to its starting position? The object is right of its starting position. The object is left of its starting position. The object is at its starting position. At time t = 2, how far is the object from its starting position? cm How far has the object traveled between t = 0 and t = 5? cmExplanation / Answer
As part (a) and (c) are correct so lets work on part (b)
b>
We need to find how far is the object from the strat position at time t = 2 seconds.
From the velocity time graph given to us we could observe that
for t = 0 to t = 3 , the velocity of the object is 2 cm/sec .That is during this time interval the object moves at a constant speed of 2 cm/sec.
So at t = 2 seconds , the objects speed would be = 2 cm/sec as well
Now we know that distance travelled = speed * time taken
= 2 * 2 = 4 cm
Now the at t = 0 , the object is at 0 cm
and at t = 2 seconds the object is at 4 cm
=> At t = 2 sec, the object is 4 cm to the right of the start position
Answer is = 4 cm
