Question

8. Question 8 a. Look around online for estimates of the number of people dying right now because of climate change. I'm finding estimates of at least 150,000 per year today, and surely it must be rising rapidly. Of course this is approximate. The deaths result from expansion of tropical diseases into regions in which people have no immunity, heat stress, extreme weather events, food supply disruptions in agriculture and ocean fisheries, and other causes. b. Explain the ozone loss problem, and again search for estimates of the resulting death rate. I think most of the deaths are due to cancer.

Explanation / Answer

8.a) Climate change is reponsible for 300000 deaths in a year in this world by 2009. It is estimated that the number of deaths may increase upto 500000 by 2030. Number of people who are vulnerable to death due to climate are 4 billion and 500000 people are at the extreme critical stage. 8.b) Due to high levels of heat emitted into the atmosphere, the ozone layer is depleting and due to the void that is produced, the Ultra Violet radiations are entering the atmosphere and it has adverse effects on all the living organisms in the world. In 1991, it was estimated that in future there will 20000 to 30000 deaths due to skin cancer caused by the harmful UV radiations.
