Question

8:27 Meme 86. Manatee population. In Jarn 3143 manatees In January were counted in an aerial survey 2011, 4834 manatees were counted. (Source: Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission.) a) Using the year as the x-coordinate and the number of manatees as the y-coordinate, find an equation of the line that contains the two data points b) Use the equation in part (a) to estimate the number of manatees counted in January 2010. c) The actual number counted in January 2010 was 5067. Does the equation found in part (a) give an accurate representation of the number of manatees counted each year? Why or why not?. O O 0 2

Explanation / Answer

Let at 2015, t=0

So the points are (0,3143),(6,4834)

Slope=(4834-3143)/(6-0)=1691/6

The equation is

N=(1691/6)t+3143

b.2010 means t=5

N=(1691/6)*5+3143=4552

c.From b, and from equation counted in January 2010 is 4552 but in actual it is 5067. So the equation does not give the accurate number.
