If a 5-card poker hand is dealt from a well-shuffled deck of 52 cards, how many different hands consist of the following: Four of a kind?Explanation / Answer
The "four of a kind" is characterised by two cards: the one of which there are 4 in the hand and the one of which there is only 1. Hence you can choose the first out of 52/4=13 different types of card (that is, in 13 ways). Now, the 5th card can be chosen as any of the remaining 52-4=48 cards. So, in total, you can have 13*48=624 different hands of four of a kind.
