The dispute behind the naming of Persian Gulf: Before Arab Nationalism, countries were together in the Gulf region. In historical records, Persian Gulf was the name given to it. Persia was the countries present in the gulf before. But now the Persian region includes only Iran and other nations were segregated after Arab revolution. People from Arab nations claim that the Arabian Gulf was the name supposed to be given to the present Persian Gulf but Red sea has got the name in the history as Arabian Gulf and therefore was difficult to name the Persian Gulf as Arabian Gulf. Arab Nationalism: Egypt, Syria, Libya, Iraq, Israel, Bahrain, Kuwait, Saudi Arabia, UAE, Oman, Qatar started discussing about the Arab ideology and Arab nationalism except Iran. This ideology played a major role in dispute behind the naming of Persian Gulf. Iran’s claim: Iran is the only non-Arab country and it claims that the Persian Gulf is the name from history and it is not necessary to reject it and to continue the identity of it. Arab countries claim: Arab countries prefer to use “gulf” or “Arabian Gulf” because Persian Gulf includes not only the gulf area but also the other parts around it.
