Question

I was asked what is the appropriate level of measurement forthe following date: raw, dry, trace, raw, dry, dry, trace, and raw.We had to choose between median, mode and mean. I chose median toavoid two modes. The problem is I am not sure what does choosingthe median tell me about this data. Can you tell me why median isthe best level of measurement for this data? Explanation / Answer

i.e. could we assign numerical values to the data: raw=1, dry=2, trace=3? In order to use the median, youwould have to sort these from least to greatest, which may notapply to this categorical data.
I think in this case, it is still wise to use the mode, eventhough there are two modes raw and dry. This still givesinformation about common frequencies.
I hope that didn't confuse you more.
