Question
A software company claims that they can help their customers 70% of the time. Suppose 6 customers call the company for assistance.
a) Tabulate and Plot the probability distribution for random variable x. Where, x = 0, 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6 is the number of customers that the company is able to assist.
don't understand how to get values p(x). My prof gave us the solution with the following table:
Find values of p(x) from Binomial Table (Appendix II, table 3) or from calculator
x_____p(x)_____
0 .001
1 .010
2 .060
3 .185
4 .324
5 .303
6 .118
I don't understand how these values (p(x)) were found or how to do it on a calculator - I have casio fx 9750 if someone knows anything about it
whenever I try to use the formula for finding p(x) I end up getting the wrong value, for example, calculating p(0) always gives me some small number (I think 7.29x10^-4) when the supposed correct answer is 0.001
Explanation / Answer
from binomial theorum probability of getting x number out of 6 cumstomer =P(X=x)= (6Cx)(0.7)x(0.3)6-x
therfore for P(0) =(6!/(0!*6!))*(0.7)0*(0.3)6 =0.000729
therefore the value which you have calcluated is right; only thing your professor did is to take values till only 3 significant digits . That is why your answer is not matching .
please revert for further clarification.
