Here is my question. Please provide a brief, but simple explanation for this question.
What are advantages and disadvantages of using a histogram or stem-and-leaf plot to better understand the types of students who apply to your college? Here is my question. Please provide a brief, but simple explanation for this question.

What are advantages and disadvantages of using a histogram or stem-and-leaf plot to better understand the types of students who apply to your college?

Explanation / Answer

Histogram

Advantges:

1.) It gives us the graphical representation of data.

2.) It tell about the symmetry of data.

3.) It provide us the general shape of the distribution.

4.) It tells about the modality i.e. Uni modal, Bi-modal or Multi modal.

Disadvantage

1.) You Can find out exact point (data points) from histogram.

2.) There is no variability constrains so you can make the histogram of as much observations but many times its mislead us.

3.) As you change the interval of the histogram it will give you different insights. In that case finding out which is better insight is a tedious task.

Stem and Leaf plot

Advantage

You can find each data point from this plot.

It easy to make it since there is no need to make frequency distribution.

Data is arranged compactly since stem is not repeated in multiple data points.

It also tells the symmetry of the distribution.

Disadvantage

you can not make it if variability of data is high.

there is basic limitations that is you can not change the stem value.

applicable for only discrete data sets.

Cheers!
