Question

17. Chapter 1, Problem 1.17 Aa Aa A randomized experiment was done in which overweight men were randomly assigned to either exercise or go on a diet for a year. At the end of the study there was a statistically significant difference in average weight loss for the two groups What additional information would you need in order to determine if the difference in average weight loss had practical importance? O How large the difference in weight loss was for the two groups O What age groups the men in the two groups belonged to O How strongly significant the difference in weight loss was for the two groups How many hours the two groups of men slept each night

Explanation / Answer

here , how large the difference in weight loss was between the groups must be known for the results to be of practical importance.

Eg : if the average weight loss difference between the 2 groups is just say 0.5 kgs and the result are still statistically signficant , practically the results are not much important.

However , if the difference is say of 10kgs and the results are signficant , then such results is practically important too .

age group , hours of sleep and strong significance doesnt add anything to being "practically important"

Hope this helps !!
