For whatever reason, you prepare for the midterm exam by completing and understanding how to solve 11 questions of the 20, so there are 9 questions you do not know how to solve. Part (a) Can you identify the underlining probability model? ? What is the probability that you completely solve 8 of the 14 questions appearing on the midterm exam? t (If rounding use at least four digits after the decimal in your answer) Part (b) To pass the midterm, you must correctly solve at least half of the 14 questions. What is the probability of you passing the midterm exam? (If rounding use at least four digits after the decimal in your answer) Submit Answers

Explanation / Answer

There are two outcomes that you know the answer or you do not.

(a) The Underlying probability model is Binomial.

Probability of answering correctly p = 11/20.

Probability of not answering correctly 1 - p = 9/20.

Number of questions n = 14.

Probability of solving 8 out of 14 questions = 14C8 * (11/20)8 * (9/20)14-8 = 3003 * (11/20)8 * (9/20)6

= 0.2088.

(b) From the binomial distribution table,

P(x >= 7) = 0.7414.
