Question

The questions in this exercise are based on this contour line map with elevations sh . North is to the top of the map. e Streams are shown with dashed lines. . A graphic scale for measuring horizontal distances is shown below the map. own in feet. Estimate elevations between contour lines to the nearest half-contour interval; assume that the top of a hill is one-half-contour interval higher than the highest contour line shown. 750 e B Pine Hill Rock Hill A. 1000 F. 1000 1000 2000 3000 FEET 201 Copyright 0 2017 Pearson Education, Inc.

Explanation / Answer

1. The contour interval is 50 feet. When we count the number of contour lines between the two known contours we get to calculate the interval. Like, for example, there are 5 contour lines between 500 feet and 750 feet in the west of the given map. The diiference is 250 feet. Therefore, each contour is spaced at a 50 feet interval.

2.The height of point A is 750 feet. Point A is surrounded by the 750 feet contour line.

3.The height of point B approximates 675 feet. It lies between the 700 feet contour and 650feet contour in the north.

4. Elevation of point C is 575 feet. It lies between the 550 feet and the 600 feet contour line in the south.
