Question

28. Which of these factors does not influence soil organism numbers? a. the amount and quality of food available b. physical factors (e.g., moisture and temperature) c. biotic factors (e.g., predation and competition) d. chemical characteristics of the soil (e.g., acidity, dissolved nutrients, and salinity) e. none of the above 29. T he importance of specific groups of soil organisms is commonly identified by a. the numbers of individuals in the soil b. their weight (biomass) per unit volume or area of soil c. their metabolic activity (often measured as the amount of carbon dioxide given off in respiration) d. a, b and c e. b, and c

Explanation / Answer

Answer No-28-(e)none of the above

It means that the factors does influence soil organism number based on--

(a) amount and quality of food available,if we incraese the amount of the food material then the count of the species get increased and also for food quality the number of count for species increased and ultimately biomass increased.

(b)physical factors(e.g. moisure and temperature), the moisture level and temperature lavel if increasing then the level of production getting high beacause production and adoptation of species depends on the temperature. As we know that in the polar area population is low but in equitorial area the number of counts get high and the survival in equitorial area is so easy compared to polar area.

(c)biotic factor (predation and competition), If we look at the biomas distribution with stage wise so number of species depends on the predation,if suppose any 1° species present in any system and 2° species behaves as predator so 2° species will eat 1° species. So over all biomass increasing in 2° but total number of count get decrease. The second important thing is the competition between the species, the strongest one will competite in same population and that one will attack on the prey. The remaining species will die and very less amount of species will find the food due to the competition between them.

(d)chemical charecterstics of the soil (e.g acidity, dissolved nutrients and salinity) these all factor that prevents the total number of species in the soil.

ANSWER NO-29-THE IMPORTANCE OF SPECIFIC GROUPS OF SOIL ORGANISM IS COMMONLY IDENTIFIED BY--

(e) b and c

(b)the weight (biomass) per unit volume or area of the soil- if we measured the area of the soil then we could identify the specific group of organism.

(c)the metabolic activity (often measured as the amount of the carbon dioxide given off in respiration)- The respiration pattern and energy if we observe then we can know the amount of carbon used in respiration and can predict metabolic activity and it will help in the identification of specific group of organism.
