Question
Left-handed pitchers, or southpaws as they are affectionately called, are considered particularly valuable in baseball, partly because they are rare but also because it is arguably more difficult to hit lefty pitchers than their right-handed counterparts. Based on the following histogram of pitchers disaggregated by handedness, do you think there is evidence for the scarcity of LH pitchers? Do you think there is evidence for the dominance of LH pitchers? (In baseball, ERA represents Earmed Run Average and when comparing pitchers, the lower this index, the better the pitcher.) I think there is evidence of scarcity of LH pitchers as their number is around 40 only as compared to more than 80 for LH pitchers.
The graph also shows that LH pitchers have dominance over RH pitchers as the ERA index is lower for LH pitchers and Lower the index, better is the pitcher.
