Question

Explain the origins of Colous Cro. bright orange in Explain why ligands are low or high field using CO ligand the Use electrode potential data to predict relative stabilities of oxidation states Use the following E" data to calculate the standard potential for the al for the reduction of Feo to Fe(OH)a 06V FeO2-? Fe(OH)3? Fe(OH)2? Fe basic conditions Use stability or formation constants to explain relative stabilities of complexes Explain why K Fe > K Fe for the reaction [M(OH+L- MLOH)1+H,O Given the reaction [Co(OHle?(aq) + cr(aq-[CoC)(0H2r.(aq) + HOD K-490 calculate the concentration of cr required to complex 50% of the Co(l) in aqueous solution.

Explanation / Answer

1.Due to d-d transition in the transition element ,electrons move from eg to t2g level and hence there is absorbtion and release of energy and corresponding colour is observed.

2. Those are lewis bases or which can donate electron ,these are strong field ligands. The CO is strong field ligand and the F is also donor but due to high electronegativity it is weak field ligand.

3. the standard electrode potential for reqiured reaction is

FeO42? + 3?e? + 8?H+ ? Fe3+ + 4?H2O Eo = +2.2V

obisously the Fe is the most stable .
