Referring to the residential rate schedule given in Table 27B on page 776 of the textbook, calculate the cost per kWh if 30 kWh of electricity is consumed in a month. Using the same rate schedule, calculate the least possible cost of running a 1500 kW electric stove for one hour. this rate shall apply to electric service in a single private dwelling the rate applies to single phase alternating current at 60hz minimum monthly charge:55.00plus first 100kw/h per month at 5 cents/kw. next 200kw.h per month at 3cents/kw. h excuses over 200kw.h per month at 2cents/kw.h the costumers maximum demand for the month, or its contract demand, is at least 50kw but not more then 5000kw... utility company shall make available to the costumer 1000kw of firm power during term of this contract... the shall be delivered at a normal 3-phase line voltage of 480 V.60hz... the power taken under this contract shall not be used to course unusual disturbances on the utility companies system in the event that unreasonable disturbances, including harmonic currents, produce interference with communication systems, the customer shall at hiss expense correct such disturbances... voltage variations shall not exceed 7 percent up or down from the normal blind voltage... utility company shall make periodic tests of its meeting equipment so as to maintain a high standard of accuracy... costumer shall use power so that current on the more heavily loaded phase exceeds the current in either of the two other phases by more then 20 percent, if said unbalance is not corrected. utility company may meter the load on individual phases and compute the billing demand as being equal to three times the maximum demand on any phase... the maximum demand for any month shall be greatest of the demands measured in kilowatts during any 30-minute period of the month ... if 90 present of the highest average kva measured during any 30-minute period is highest then the maximum demand, such amount will be used as the billing ..."Explanation / Answer
Rate schedule give in Table:
Minimum monthly CHARGES $ 5.00 plus
first 100 kW.h per month at 5 cents/ kW.h
next 200 kW.h per month at 3 cents/ kW.h
excess over 200 kW.h per month at 2 cents/ kW.h
1) 30 kW.h of power is consumed per month.
Here power consumed is less than 100 kW.h. So,
Cost = 5 cents per kW.h
Total cost = 5 * 30 = 150 cents.
2)Generally electric stove is in range of 1500 W .
Electric stove of 1500 W for one hour
Power consumed by stove = 1500 W.h = 1.5 kW.h
minimum charge due to this is when our power consumption is above 300 kW.h
Least Cost incurred due to stove = 2 * 1.5 = 3cents
