Gas is produced from and injected into the well all year round. From November 1,2004 to April 30, 2005 (181 days), gas was injected into the storage at a rate of 4 MMcf/d and withdrawn at a rate of 16 MMcf/d. Calculate A, B, and C. 7457 If 1 scf of natural gas generates 1000 Btu of heat, what is the heating value of the gas in C in dekatherm? 1 dekatherm 1,000,000 Btu 59

Explanation / Answer

Solution:

Working gas is the maximum volume of gas available for withdrawn. Now, the gas is withdrawn and injected into at more-or-less constant rate round the year. From May 1 to October 31, the number of days is 184. So, as of October 31, 2004, the working gas volume is 16*184=2944 MMcf. So, A=2944.

Now, the total gas storage as of April 30, 2005, is 7457-(16*181)+(4*181)=5285 MMcf. So, B-5285.

And the working gas as of April 30, 2005, is 16*181=2896 MMcf. So, C=2896.

Now, 2896 MMcf=2896*106 Scf, which produces 2896*109 Btu heat

Since, 106 Btu=1 dekatherm

Therefore, 2896*109 Btu=2896*103 dekatherm=2896000 dekatherm.

So, the heating value of gas in C is 2896000 dekatherm.
