Question
can someone please help me with this? im so lost
(1 point) What specific stage in the life cycle of a cyclone has the low likely reached at this time (again, choose from: initiation, open, early-occlusion, late-occlusion, or dissolving)?
(2 points) What is the term which describes the key spatial configuration between the surface low and the 500-mb low that characterizes this stage (cited in part i)?
(1 point) In this configuration, what key process over the low essentially vanishes?
(3 points) Please state the expected change in column weight over the low over the next 12-24 hours (increase, decrease, or stay the same). Next, explain your reasoning by discussing any sources of convergence and divergence throughout the column.
(1 point) Building on your explanation of column weight change in part iv, would the surface pressure at the center of the low (increase, decrease, or remain the same).
Explanation / Answer
It seems that the life cycle of the cyclone in the low likely reached mature occlusion or late-occlusion at this time.
The spatial configuration between the surface low and the 500-mb low that characterizes this stage is occlusion.
The key process which vanishes over the low is " the worm wind" in this configuration.
It is expected that in the next 12-24 hours a heavy downpour with thunderstorm might occur in the low.
Explanation:
In the picture, we can see two different types of air masses. The red one shows the warm air and the blue one shows the cold air mass. The triangle in the blue shows the direction, which is west to east in our case. the red semicircles are showing south o north directions.
In the southern part of US near Florida, we can see both blue triangle and red semicircle in the opposite direction which signifies that warm air and cold air both are blowing parallel, so it is the initiation of the mid-latitude cyclone with a stationary front. then after some time, as the speed of cold wind increase (as it is cold and dense ) and it wants to reach the surface low so it starts pushing the warm air up(which is lighter), after some time it catches up the warm air and lift the warm airmass from the ground so there will not be any warm air left in the ground and so the occluded front form, in the diagram, we can see the purple line with alternative triangle and semicircle which shows the mature or late-occluded front.
(Basically due to divergence warm air going up and convergence gears the cold air to moves down and lifting the warm air.)
After this, as there was no warm air prevail so no more condensation and the storm will begin to die and the low pressure remains the same with sometimes some more patches of surface low-pressure areas.
Hope this will help you.
