Question

the year is 2030 . you are in your late thirties or early forties . you have been very successful in your chosen career (in part due to the education you received at the University of Hartford) and you decide to build a swimming pool in your back yard. you contact an architect, who designs a circular pool with a diameter of 10.0 meters, and a depth of 2.00 meters . as a part of your planning , you want to know how much it will cost each year to fill the pool . unfortunately ,the municipality in which you live is still in the dark ages and is charging water by the gallon. how many gallons of water will your pool hold

possibly useful information :
1 meter= 3.28feet
1 gallon= 4 quarts
1 liter= 1.06 quarts
1 milliliter= 1 cubic centimeter
Note: you may or may not need all of the above conversion factors, depending upon how you choose to solve the problem . conversely, there may be other conversion factors not listed here, of which you are aware , that you find to be useful.

Explanation / Answer

diameter/ 2 = radius

radius =5

surface area = radius2 x 3.14

radius2 x 3.14 x depth in feet = gallons

depth 2 meters = 6.56 ft

52 x 3.14 x 6.56 = 514.96 gallons
