Question
The following questions consist of five phrases or sentences related to the control of cell division. For each one, select the term below that is most closely related to it. Each term may be used once, more than once, or not at all. PDGF MPF DNA. cyclin Cdk Fibroblasts have receptors for this substance on their plasma membranes. a protein synthesized at specific times during the cell cycle that associates with a kinase to form a catalytically active complex a protein maintained at constant levels throughout the cell cycle that requires cyclin to become catalytically active The following questions are based on Figure below. In the figure above, mitosis is represented by which number? I II IIIExplanation / Answer
6)PGDF(Platelet derived Growth factor) binds to receptors on plasma membrane of fibroblast cells
7)cyclin is the protein synthesised at sepcific times during the cell cycle that associates with kinase and forms cyclin-CDK complex (This complex is also called Maturation promoting factor-MPF, as this helps in further cell divison and maturation).
8)Cdk (cyclin dependent kinase protein) is constantly present in cells and becomes active only when it binds to cyclin.
9) Based on the figure IV is the correct answer as cell cycle consists of G1, S G2 and M phase. Phase I is G1 phase wherein the amount of DNA is 2c. Phase II is S phase wherein amount starts getting double due to DNA synthesis i.e 2c to 4c, Phase III is G2 phase wherein DNA has already been doubled at end end of S phase i.e 4c. Phase IV is M phase and just begining we have 4c, in middle we have 4c to 2c and then at end we have 2c. So M phase have same DNA like G1 phase i.e 2c. Now V phase marks the begining of second cycle and hence it is G1 phase next cycle.
