Question

It is well known among reindeer genetists working near the North Pole that the rare recessive condition bb at the autosomal bright-red locus allows a small percentage of male, but no female, reindeer to have bright-red noses. These can serve as sources of light on cold winter nights to guide sleighs. It is also well known that a more common X-linked allele, S, at the Superfast locus allows hemizygous and homozygous reindeer to fly quite well, but that heterozygous Ss reindeer have quite variable flying ability. Even though vast sums have been invested - just this year the reindeer genome was sequenced - we still have no clue what gene products are responsible for these phenotypes. This is because they are very difficult to study. Only children, typically under the age of 6, can observe these traits. Not only do child-labor laws make impossible to hire the little tykes, the traits are visible to these children only on December 24. Fortunately, there are a few adult researchers who have reported observing these traits; however, they are thought to have been hallucinating due to excessive drinking on Christmas Eve. Still, even these adults have never seen the traits except on December 24. Consider this information and match each statement on the left with whether it is true or false. Answer The bright-red nose trait is sex-limited. Read Answer Items for Question 11 The bright-red gene shows sex-linkage. Read Answer Items for Question 11 The bright-red trait is sex-influenced. Read Answer Items for Question 11 The phenotype of heterozygous Ss females shows evidence of incomplete dominance. Read Answer Items for Question 11 The bright-red nose phenotype of bb males shows constant expressivity. Read Answer Items for Question 11 The bright-red nose phenotype of bb males shows complete penetrance. Read Answer Items for Question 11 Both the flying and the nose phenotypes shows time-limited expressivity. Read Answer Items for Question 11 Answer A. True. B. False
