Question

1) in mammal's, the egg cell genome is unmethylated compared to the sperm cell and both are unmethylated compared to a somatic cell. Which cell has the most number of active genes?

2) list two eukaryotic gene regulation mechanisms that don't involve the promoter region?

3) if you were to inactivate DNA polymerase alpha what effect would it have and in what sort of organism?

4) what characteristics distinguish enhancers from other regulatory elements?

5) why don't eukaryotes use attenuation to regulate their genes?

im just looking for basic one to two line answers not paragraph long answers

Explanation / Answer

A. The egg cell possess some presynthesized genes and proteins which are used and very important in the early devwlopmental stage. But sprem do not posses beacuse all the cytoplasm to zygote comes from the mother only . Egg cell have more active genes compared to sprem cell. But stomatic cells have more activated gene compared to germcells.

B.

1. Gene regulation by steroid hormones.

2. Transcript tonal slicing

3. RNA interference.

C. DNA polymerase alpha primary mechanism is to intiate replication at the origin of replication site. If it is inactivated intiation step stops and thus total replication stops. It occurs in eukaryotic organusms.

D. Enhancers are short region of DNA ( cis acting DNAelements) that are not strictly part of promoter region yet strongly influence transcription by binding with proteins called transcription factors. Where as regulatory elements are non coding DNA elemets which regulate the transcription of genes these are present around the genes which they regulate.
