Question

Formulate the following problem mathematically. DO NOT attempt to solve the problem. A freight company transports containers for two different customers, A and D. Each container from customer A is 2 cubic metres in size and weighs 500 kg. Each container from customer B is 1 cubic metre in size and weighs 200 kg. The freight company charges customer A $25 per container and customer B $15 per container. Their trucks have a maximum capacity of 10 tonnes (= 10,000 kg) and 45 cubic metres. How many of each customer's containers should the freight company load onto their trucks in order to maximize their revenue per truckload?

Explanation / Answer

500A + 200B < 10000 .....................................(1)

2A + B < 45 ...................................................(2)

(1) gives ,

5A+2B < 100

now, we have to maximize

25A + 15B .

this is the formulation.
