Question

For each situation below determine if both the changes in the two quantities and the two quantities are proportional. Between 2000 and 2005 the Burger Company's profit increased by $3, 500 per year. In 2000 the Burger Company's profit was $52,000. Determine if the change in the number of years since 2000 is proportional to the change in the Burger Company's profit. Explain your reasoning. Determine if the number of years since 2000 is proportional to the Burger Company's profit. Explain your reasoning. You are planning a trip to Las Vegas and need to rent a car. After contacting the different car companies you choose to go with the company that charges a $25 rental fee and $0.05 per mile that the car is driven. Determine if the change in the number of miles driven is proportional to the change in the total cost of the rental car. Explain your reasoning. Determine if the number of miles driven is proportional the total coat of the rental car. Explain your reasoning. When baking chocolate chip cookies you need 3 cups of flour per cup of sugar. Determine if the change in the number cups of flour is proportional to the change in the number of cups of sugar. Explain your reasoning. Determine if the number of cups of flour is proportional to the number of cups of sugar. Explain your reasoning.

Explanation / Answer

i) rate of change of profit = $3500 per year

proft increases by $ 3500 each year

In 2001 profit = 2000 + 3500 = $ 5500

So, change in profit/change in year = 3500

So, change in year = chane in profit/3500

It means change in year is dierctly proptional to change in profit.

ii) P(x) = 2000 + 3500*x where x is no of years since year 2000

So, x = ( P -2000)/3500

No. of years is proptional to profit
