Question

A dog's age in human years y is 15 when the calendar age of the dog is 1. The human age is 24 when the calendar age is 3. Let x be the calendar age of a dog. Write a linear function that models this data. Then use the function to find the given value. y = (Simplify your answer and round to Two decimal places, including zeros as needed Example 2 should be written as 20t include commas.) Estimate the calendar age of a dog that is 42 human years old. years (Round your answer to Two decimal places, Example: 2 should be written as 2.00. Do not include commas.)

Explanation / Answer

The calendar age be x

so when x = 1 , Y= 15 and when x = 3, Y = 24

let Y =kx+a

when x=1 and y =15 we have the equation as, 15=k+a

when x = 3 and Y=24 we have the equation as, 24=3k+a

slving which we get Y = 9/2 x + 21/2

so when y = 42, x value is found by substituing in the above equation

hence we get x= 7.00
