Question
Based on your readings, discuss what the mean of a sampling distribution is and describe how to calculate it using a specific example.
For example, say you want to explore the heights of flower plants in your garden. You would select 10 plants, measure their heights, and find the average (the mean) of the 10 heights. That will give you one mean. You then repeat those steps 50 times. That is, you obtain 50 sets of 10 heights. For each of the 50 sets you compute the mean of heights. You will have 50 means. They are a sampling distribution. If you were to take the mean of the 50 means, you would obtain the mean of the sampling distribution.
Describe a scenario and explain finding the mean of a sampling distribution. Use an example other than the heights of flowering plants, but go through the steps listed above.
Explanation / Answer
Suppose in a company the particular manufacture product weight after packing it as 1 kg ( 1000 grams).
We want to estimate the weight of that product.
First we select 25 samples ( bags of that product) and then find the mean of these. So we get one mean
Then we repeat those steps 100 times (you can repeat it 30, 35, 40 or any other number) So we get the 100 means
So they are the sampling distribution and the mean of these 100 means are the mean of the sampling distribution.
